Edward M. Nichols, Jr. (b. 1920, Savannah, Ga.-d. Sept. 22, 2004), U.S. Air Force officer, completed flight training in the Army Air Corps and received his commission and pilot wings in 1941. William Inman Martin was born on May 5, 1910, in Ava, Missouri. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1934, and advanced through grades to the rank of vice admiral in 1967.
